SkinCeuticals is a line of products best known for their topical antioxidant/Vitamin-C serum products. When applied as directed, they will start to be absorbed by the skin almost immediately. After these serums are absorbed, they cannot be washed off. These protein antioxidant products were developed as a preventative treatment with the goal of protecting the skin from further environmental damage, and to help prevent environmental free radicals from damaging your collagen and DNA molecules. This helps to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as preventing the development of skin cancers and pre-cancerous lesions by providing up to 8 times the protection of using sunscreen alone!
Vitamin-C is necessary for the production of collagen; the major structural protein of the skin, and you may notice a visible difference in skin texture, color and tone with regular usage. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles should become less noticeable within a short term as well. Individual results may vary, depending upon the condition of the skin at the time of initial use. The most important benefit of Vitamin C/antioxidant serums is preventative, which is why it is typically applied in the morning immediately after cleansing and toning the skin. SkinCeuticals also produces a wide variety of cleansers, moisturizer enhancers, eye creams, sunscreens, and other skin care products that are appropriate for specific skin types.
Retinol or Retin-A (aka Tretinoin) compound anti-aging benefits:
- Speeds up the cell cycle to turn over the outer layer of skin cells faster
- Helps to “prime” the skin for cosmetic procedures
- Improves skin texture
- Improves skin tone
- Decreases pore size
- Decreases oil production and the formation of acne
- Helps to build collagen
NOTE: Retinol or Retin-A usage sensitizes the skin and makes you more susceptible to sunburns.
You MUST use sunblock when using Retinol or Retin-A products!!
Chemical peeling involves using a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture and tone of the facial skin by removing damaged outer layers of skin. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, acne, wrinkles, acne scarring, and uneven skin pigmentation. There are many different forms of chemical peels, and many solutions contain multiple ingredients. Dr. Lewen will speak to you during your consultation to determine which chemical peel is best for you individually.
At times, chemical peels may be safely performed in conjunction with surgery or other non-surgical treatments.
The effects of a chemical peel will be more pronounced and last longer if you utilize a good skin care regimen in conjunction with your peel. Dr. Lewen will work with you at the time of consultation to build a regimen that best suits your needs and cosmetic goals.
Chemical peels can also be used to remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars, and can even help control acne.
- Chemical peels can be superficial, medium, or deep. When deeper skin layers are involved, healing time is longer and redness afterwards will be greater. Deeper peels get more substantial results.
- A series of multiple peels may be needed to get the desired results. This depends on the individual patient.
- Everybody who gets a chemical peel MUST use sunblock!!!
Types of Peels offered by Dr. Lewen:
- SkinMedica Vitalize (2nd level superficial peel)
- SkinMedica Rejuvenize (3rd level superficial peel)
NOTE: Retin-A usage sensitizes the skin and makes you more susceptible to sunburns.
You MUST use sunblock when using Retin-A!!
