Liquid Cheek Augmentation Miami

Defined cheek bones are very important for youthful balance and symmetry in the appearance of facial features. Many times, one of the first signs of aging in the face is a loss of volume in the cheek areas. This loss of volume can be due to a combination of factors including: genetics, facial shape, weight, diet, hormone changes, medical conditions, environmental stresses such as sun exposure and smoking, and sleep patterns. Over time, people tend to lose volume from the cheek and midface areas as well. In fact, the loss of volume in the cheeks over time causes the face to appear longer, while the lower parts of the face begin to appear heavier. These changes will shift the primary focal point of the face from the eyes (the most desirable location) to a lower position, causing people to start to notice more heaviness in areas such as around the mouth, in the nasolabial folds, and near the jawline. Additionally, loss of volume in the cheeks can significantly affect the light-reflectance patterns of the face, and this can often make the eyes appear somewhat darker, while also creating some undesirable shadows in the surrounding areas. When you lose those “apple cheeks,” you may feel that you are beginner to look more tired and older in appearance. Also, the areas of the face just below your lower eyelids, can start to look more pronounced when you have volume loss in the cheeks, and this can cause some hollow areas to show more underneath the eyes.

Liquid Cheek Augmentation is a great way to add natural, youthful cheek volume without the more extensive downtime from surgery. As with all of his rejuvenation procedures, Dr. Lewen’s primary goal with Liquid Cheek Augmentation is to re-establish youthful facial contours, balance, and harmony. By restoring natural and adequate volume to the cheek areas, this will restore normal light-reflectance patterns to the face, and will often cause the eyes to appear brighter, as well as lessening some of the shadowing effects below the eyes.

Dr. Lewen meticulously injects volume into the cheek areas, and this can create the effect of lifting the midface, often also causing some areas around the mouth and jawline to improve as well! Although some patients may be concerned about having cheeks that are too large, this is very rarely a concern for patients after having this procedure. It is important to understand that it is the careful and selective placement of Facial Filler products in the correct anatomic areas that serves to have a lifting effect for the midface areas, and Dr. Lewen is meticulous in his technique to ensure that the effects from Liquid Cheek Augmentation are natural-appearing. Patients will often share that after having a Liquid Cheek Augmentation procedure, they will feel that their faces appear more youthful, well rested, more relaxed, less stressed, less angry, happier, and healthier!

Dr. Lewen typically performs Liquid Cheek Augmentation as an in-office procedure with most patients experiencing minimal or no discomfort. Some degree of bruising and swelling can be expected after the procedure, but this will vary based on each individual patient.

Liquid Cheek Augmentation is a procedure that is frequently performed in combination with other cosmetic surgeries and procedures, such as Upper and Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty, Brow Lift, Midface Lift, and CO2 Laser Resurfacing.

In particular, Dr. Lewen regularly uses Facial Filler injections such as Liquid Cheek Augmentation to achieve a more balanced and complete rejuvenation of the lower eyelids for certain patients in combination with Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty surgery. For these patients, an optimal rejuvenation of the lower eyelids cannot be accomplished by just simply removing the bags of fat or pulling the lower eyelid skin tighter. Although it may seem that this simpler excision of tissue and pulling things tighter is all that needs to be done to improve the appearance of this facial area, this outdated approach to lower lid rejuvenation and blepharoplasty can actually make your eyes appear somewhat more sunken, hollow, and aged in appearance over time. It is important to understand the significance of volume, shape, and positioning of the midface when considering the best rejuvenation options for the lower eyelids. It is this relationship between the lower eyelids and the midface, along with the smoothness of transition between these two areas of the face, that is integral for the best possible cosmetic rejuvenation with natural-appearing results. For this reason, the ideal rejuvenation of the lower eyelids for many patients may necessitate some degree of volume replacement in the lower eyelid or midface with Facial Filler injections, such as Liquid Cheek Augmentation, to create a smoother transition between the lower eyelids and the midface tissues.

Dr. Lewen’s meticulous technique for Liquid Cheek Augmentation not only addresses the cosmetic portion of the lower eyelid area but also serves to improve lower lid support. In many cases, proper volume replacement in the cheeks can reduce the amount of lower eyelid skin that may initially appear to be in excess as this area becomes “re-inflated.” Adequate volume in the midface also helps to maintain a youthful contour of the lower eyelids, and creates a smoother blending effect in the transition between the lower lid and the cheek areas.

To understand the true role of Liquid Cheek Augmentation, and other volume replacement procedures, it is important to consider the shape of a face as it matures. A child’s face, no matter how thin, tends to have more of a round shape that is attributable to normal fullness from “baby fat.” This baby fat tends to shrink over time, and at different rates depending on individual genetic and environmental factors. By the late 20’s/early 30’s, much of the baby fat in a woman’s face will be gone, and the face will appear more heart-shaped, with fullness still maintained around the eyes and a more tapered jawline. With continued aging, loss of volume around the eyes, in the midface, around the mouth, and along the jawline areas, causes these areas of the face to appear deflated and sag. This also contributes to the appearance of added weight in the lower face, neck, and jowl areas. These age-related facial changes create a longer shape to the face, eventually, the youthful heart or triangular shape tends to appear inverted, with fullness in the lower part of the face and a lack of volume in the upper areas. Although many people want volume replacement procedures such as Facial Fillers to erase lines, folds, and wrinkles on the face, the more important role for these procedures is to restore the youthful balance, contour, and shape to the face. This is extremely important for achieving the most natural and effective facial rejuvenation.

During your consultation, Dr. Lewen will take extra care to listen to your specific concerns and cosmetic desires. After examining your individual anatomy, he will then share his recommendations for your best treatment plan. Before your treatment, the office staff will apply some numbing cream to the cheek areas that are being treated. Afterwards, these areas will be carefully prepped to ensure that all makeup and oils are removed from the skin, and that the skin surface is sterile before starting your Liquid Cheek Augmentation procedure.

For this area of the face, Dr. Lewen only utilizes specific Facial Filler products that have been well-demonstrated scientifically to have the most beneficial properties when injected into the cheeks. Many of these products now come pre-mixed with numbing medicine, and in some cases, Dr. Lewen will add some additional numbing medicine for optimum patient comfort. After the injections are performed, Dr. Lewen will carefully mold the products to ensure smoothness of contour, and to minimize the risk for any irregularities. Ice is also used as an additional form of anesthesia for certain areas that can be more sensitive to provide the easiest and most comfortable experience during injections.

After your procedure is completed, Dr. Lewen’s staff will provide you with ice to apply to the treated cheek areas, and you will be given a detailed post-procedure instruction sheet.

How often will I need this treatment?

Individual patient anatomy in this area of the face can vary considerably. Depending upon the severity of your volume deficiency or creasing and the amount of product required to correct this area, most patients will find that the results from Liquid Cheek Augmentation can last for 1 to 2 years. It is important to remember that every person metabolizes facial filler product somewhat differently, and therefore, individual results may last for variable amounts of time. Dr. Lewen usually recommends that his patients schedule a follow-up appointment at about 6-9 months after Liquid Cheek Augmentation in order to evaluate the area and determine the best schedule for maintaining your results.

What is the downtime?

Every patient is somewhat different in terms of the healing time required after a Liquid Cheek Augmentation procedure. Procedures that require more product volume will typically have slightly more healing time required. Although Dr. Lewen utilizes advanced injection techniques to minimize bruising as much as possible, this can still occur with these injections, and you should also expect some degree of swelling in the treated area afterwards. Applying ice to the treated area immediately afterwards, and for the first 24-48 hours, will significantly reduce the risk of additional bruising and swelling in the area. Arnica, a homeopathic remedy, may also help to alleviate swelling and bruising somewhat faster. There is no downtime required after Liquid Cheek Augmentation injections, and you can resume normal exercise 24 hours after treatment. Although some patients will see results immediately after treatment, you should expect your final Liquid Cheek Augmentation results to settle in by about 1-2 weeks after your treatment.

If you have any additional questions or concerns about downtime following a Liquid Cheek Augmentation procedure, please contact one of Dr. Lewen’s Patient Coordinator’s to learn more about what can be down pre- and post-treatment to ensure that you have as little downtime as possible!
