What does health and wellness have to do with appearance?

We have all heard that our body is our temple, so we should treat it as such. Why are we always so quick to jump to quick fixes even when our health is not in the best interest? There are very simple hacks to cosmetic issues if you are not quite ready to go under the knife, or if you have other issues holding you back from your cosmetic surgery.  Patients often come to me feeling they look tired yet are not ready for filler or surgery. For these patients I always discuss the benefits of the following non-surgical and least invasive approaches:

  • Using artificial tears Artificial tears can not only relieve dry eyes, but also restore your natural eyelid height. When your eyes are tired and dry from straining on the computer all day, they tend to droop to compensate for the dry discomfort. Using artificial tears will help moisten the eyes, allowing you to open them fully and comfortably!
  • Staying hydrated Water has so many benefits for both your skin and overall health. Staying hydrated with aid in plumping fine lines when you wish to put off getting facial filler just a little longer.
  • Getting enough rest, along with regular exercise Never give up your beauty rest and exercise! Being well rested will somewhat reduce the appearance of your eyes looking discolored, dark, and hollow. Exercise will increase endorphins which will in turn, help you feel as good as you look.
  • IPL or laser treatments Lunch break treatments such as IPL, are perfect for those just wanting to dip their toes into cosmetic treatments. There is minimal downtime with benefits of pigmentation correction, pore shrinking, and collagen stimulation!
  • Morpheus8 with Facetite Micro-needling with radio frequency and Facetite is great alternative to undergoing the knife. These treatments combined can mimic a traditional facelift with less than 1/3 of the downtime, no incisions, no scalpels, or sutures necessary.

These seem miniscule, and won’t always get you a surgical result, however they do have an impact on appearance. Treat your body right and it will reward you. Are you ready to discuss minimally invasive procedures? Contact us to schedule a consultation!

Why you should carry sunscreen in your bag?

Sunscreen is an essential tool in anti-aging and prolonging the appearance of youthful skin. Since the sun follows us everywhere, it’s important to always have some on hand. The most innocent days without protection, are the ones that can do the most harm.

When do I apply sunscreen?

  • On the back of your hands while driving
  • Before heading to the beach or pool
  • Before doing any type of yardwork (gardening, mowing the lawn, etc.)
  • Playing sports outdoors (Be sure to reapply every 1-2 hours while outside)

While these are all examples of applying sunscreen while being active, your sunscreen should be worn daily on at least your face, neck, and decolletage. These are typically areas in which the first signs of aging are shown, so naturally, this should be your first armour up in preventative aging.

How can I find sunscreen that is right for me?

Choosing a sunscreen for your skin type and lifestyle doesn’t have to be hard. We make it easy by offering an assortment of medical-grade sunscreens formulated with you in mind. Our favorites are from EltaMD. This company has created sunscreen to cover all skin types and levels of activity. Does wearing sunscreen protect me from getting skin cancer?

Most sun damage is done in our youth. However, the importance and frequency of utilizing sunscreen in our lives can never come too late. While the regular use of sunscreen in your adult life doesn’t mean you will never have skin cancer, it does decrease the risk of getting it later on. Think of sunscreen like car insurance. You don’t wait to get car insurance until after having a wreck, so sunscreen shouldn’t be worn only a few months out of the year, when you have an area of concern, or after you have been diagnosed with a skin cancer.

How do I know if I have skin cancer?

Without a biopsy-proven result, it’s not 100% possible to determine if you have skin cancer or what type of skin cancer it may be. If you have a bump, mole, freckle, or any suspicious area on your face or body, the smartest thing you can do is to have it evaluated.

Laser Skin Resurfacing for Acne Scars in Miami, FL

Most people look back on their teenage years fondly, but for some, the awkward, uncomfortable, and sometimes even painful memories of puberty are best left in the past. For those that dealt with years of chronic, inflammatory acne, however, this is not so easily done as leftover scarring becomes a constant reminder of their adolescence. Fortunately, laser skin resurfacing is an excellent treatment option for those looking to improve the appearance and texture of their skin and close that chapter forever.

What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing employs the use of a CO2 laser to address a variety of cosmetic skin concerns and is extremely beneficial in improving the appearance of acne scars. The procedure works by using the laser to remove the older, upper layers of skin from acne scarring, revealing newer, more youthful skin cells underneath. The heat from the CO2 laser also stimulates collagen production, which prompts the treated skin to heal in a smoother, more even appearance.

What Should I Expect from CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Because of the delicate nature of the face, the cosmetic surgeon will administer local anesthetic injections to the treatment areas as well as a numbing cream to ensure the patient’s comfort. Most patients describe that they feel more heat from the laser during the procedure than any pain. This feeling is carried over into recovery as you can expect the treated areas to feel similar to a sunburn. To ease this feeling, ice and a thick ointment are typically applied immediately after the procedure.

What Is Recovery Like After CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing?

The procedure itself is speedy and low maintenance, however, there will likely be more downtime after the procedure. You should expect some redness and swelling around treated areas that can last up to two or three weeks, depending on your specific treatment and skin condition. As you begin the healing process, it is important to use any prescribed medications, ointments and ice on the treated areas to ensure proper healing. Many patients will quickly return to their normal daily activities with some adjustments after this initial stage of healing is complete.
